Study Day on the Generalization of English Teaching in Moroccan Middle Schools

The Faculty of Educational Sciences at Mohammed V University-Rabat organized, on January 6, a study day entitled “The Generalization of English Teaching in Moroccan Middle Schools: Opportunities, Challenges, and Perspectives.”

The event was held at the Faculty of Educational Sciences in Rabat and brought together more than 100 undergraduate and master’s students.

Coordinated by Professors Brahim Ait Hammou and Khalid Elasri, the study day brought together academics, researchers, as well as undergraduate and master’s students to discuss ongoing reforms in English language teaching and their pedagogical implications.

The scientific program opened with a welcoming address by Professor Mohamed Bouchekourte, Vice-Dean in charge of Scientific Research and Cooperation at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, Mohammed V University in Rabat.

This was followed by a presentation by Professor Zoulikha Mehdaoui, and subsequent contributions from Professors: Rahhal Ajbilou, Brahim Khartit, Youness Benbrik, and Fouzia Lamkhanter. The presentations addressed key issues related to language policy, classroom practices, and critical analyses of the English Spotlight textbooks used in Moroccan lower secondary education.

The study day concluded with open discussions emphasizing the need for closer alignment between educational policy, curriculum design, and classroom realities in order to support effective and sustainable English language teaching in Morocco.
